Did you know that if you were living in Germany you may be able to claim your pension contributions back?
If you lived in Germany for under 5 years you were contributing to a pension, but didn’t meet the time threshold to be able to cash out when you retire. So if you’re are leaving the EU you have a chance to withdrawal your pension contributions and take them with you.
Considering pension contributions from your salary are 9.3% working in Germany for a few years can add up to quite a lot of money. And you don’t want to leave money behind. Now if you’re not an EU or EEA national you might have the opportunity to claim your contributions back if you don’t plan on returning to Germany. (Note: you cannot cash out your employers contributions on your behalf).
